Default Windshields on Bobs?

I don't get it, and I guess I don't have to. But I thought the idea behind a bobber was a bike with the bare minimum. It seems odd to me the number of people who bought a Street Bob and are loading it up with chrome, windshields, backrests, saddlebags...... I'm not mad I'll make my bike the way I want and you do the same to yours I just thought I would post some of my feelings.

I'm also taking off most of the chrome. Although, I'm admittedly looking for a small windshield for long rides. I'm looking at the HOG Saints to Sinners ride coming up in June, meaning that I'd ride 8 hours from Reno to Salt Lake City one day, Salt Lake to Vegas the next, and then Vegas to Reno on the third. I would like to have a small windshield for those long rides, and then immediately ditch it once I'm at my destination and riding around locally. To me, that really beats a trailer. But in reality, I'll just end up riding in the wind without windshield. I've done it before, what's once more...

Problem with riding fast on a Bob is that you are so upright you make a natural wind break. The detachable windshield makes sense for when you are on a long ride at high speeds.

Agree with the sentiments about chrome and such though

I agree with you. I'll only change exhaust.

Well..maybe another thought would be that people want to start with an empty canvas. The bob is relatively inexpensive off the floor....if you want to spend money over time, it's the perfect ride to do it. I, personally, like the chrome...not just on my bike..but on any. And to those who bought a bob and are adding chrome...I totally understand...cause I'd do the same thing!

I'm blacking mine out as much as possible. I did buy a quick detach windshield off a guy on here for a nice discount. I used it for the ride to Daytona (I rode mine, windshield & a backpack only) then took it off when I got to my buddy's place in Orlando. I only use it for road trips. I would like to put a TALL sissy bar in black on it. And yes, I still have the solo seat and WILL NEVER go to a 2 up.

I put the detach shield on. For one reason I do not ride around town much, I get on the road and a short ride is a 100 miles a good ride is 2 to 3 hundred. I have put many miles on years ago with out a shield, and I will not go back. Unless it is to ride into town for a fun night with the car boy’s. Like some one said to each his own. On chrome take it or leave it, my other bike has enough.

i noticed from your previous posts and picture that you changed a few things on your bob and it looks good
plus freezing in the cold the detach windshield would have helped ya
I use my bikes as much as possible for transportation so the detachable windshields and
detachable bags make sense for me im not a big chrome guy but aint that part of the fun owning a bike to put your personal stamp on it ?but your right the bob looks best stripped down
