Default Lock

Thanks for the suggestions guys, I'll give them a try this evening when I get home from work.

The service dept. at the dealer here in Sav. Ga. Sucks!!! Never had any help from them, I think mostly cause I didn't buy the bike from them. That's why I dive to Cola. SC for my service.

Had a similar problem on my '07 Bob - the dealer sorted it at the 5k service by lubing it up and greasing it in the right places. Works a treat now.

Use graphite as it won't get all nasty like it would would a WD-40 type spray. Dry graphite doesn't attract dirt.

Those barrel keys suck. Cool concept, but I'd have rather had the regular old style key as opposed to these.
Mine was fine at first and eventually started feeling like it was full of sand.
Put some graphite in and it smoothed it out.

Something I noticed... the key switch seems to lead you to push it in to turn as it is spring loaded.

Now, I do press some to turn the bike on, but when locking it, I found it will go into lock if I use almost no inward pressure while turning.

If I press it in to bottom out the spring, it will not go into lock.
Can't say it will do you all any good, but that's what works for me.

I have the same problem........both trying to lock it and when I do manage to do it, sweating bullets trying to get it unlocked. I'll try the WD40 first, then if that doesn't solve it, the graphite.

My key got stuck in the ignition once and there was no way to turn it off...took it to the local custom shop here and he got it out using some force (next option was a new ignition)...have never had the problem since although I think about it everytime I turn the key on.

My fork lock wouldn't engage when I first bought my bike. Tech reached under and did something and boom. Worked. Appears it wasn't lining up. But if it was that easy to line up, I'm sure it won't take much to break the steering free if someone wants to move it. I have no faith in that lock.

Default Here is the RIGHT way to fix this, pin it!

I've been through this and really none of the solutions presented here get to the problem. The pin that comes down is out of alignment, this might be tough to describe without pics. That pin is part of the ignition key assembly and gets just out of alignment probably because it was never tightened down enough, or just loosened up.

Refer to P 8-14 in the Shop Manual, loosen up the key cylinder, line the thing up, then re-tighten. The manual says you need a special tool, but I was able to do it with needle nose pliers. I used loctite when I tightened it back and it has been fine since, like butter. Dont force it with screwdriver etc like some have mentioned, just fix it properly.
