Thanks Dynamite, I'll take your advice although I don't have the shop manual. I'll take a close look at it tonight and see if I can figure it out.
Thanks

OK, one thing that might not be obvious. There is a silver metal sticker around the keyhole that must be pulled off to reveal the slots you need to get to in order to rotate the key cylinder to loosen it up. That sticker has all the little icons on it around the keyhole.
i am on my second lock cylinder on my 09 fxdc. the second one has had its issues as well (tough to get the key to unlock) and today something happened that has made it worse.
my wife asked me to move my bike today so she could get her car out of the driveway. when i went to move the bike, i could not get the key to unlock. the key turns fine, and feels normal, but the pin does not retract from the bottom of the triple tree.
then my wife told me she backed into the bike cause she somehow didnt see it right behind her car. there seems to be alot of play in the pin, and i can see it wobbling around in the locked position. i heated the cover plate & got to the retaining lock nut and loosened that as well but i still cant seem to jimmy the pin out of the lock position. if anyone here has removed one of these locks before i would appreciate any help they could offer to help me get the front end free again.
ended up drilling a slightly bigger bore hole than the lock pin through the bottom of the triple tree.
the snapped off pin dropped through, and i was then able to get the lock out (after removing the tank bolts to slide the gas tank back a couple of inches).
now, off to order a new lock, but i am only going to use it as a back up. instead i will be putting a lock through the front brake disc.
