Look HERE for the drawings (Illustrated HD Forks PDF) than scroll to the bottom (FX) as they are almost the same as a 1948 Hydroglide. Your 07 DSB does not have drain plugs so you need to remove the 12 mm bolts Part #8. You must use an impact gun with impact 12 mm Alan impact socket. I do not recommend standard alan wrenches w or w/o air. They need to be at least 4" long. Drain the oil by removing the bolts than slightly drop the sliders. When the oil is empty re-bolt the slider back on. You must use an impact gun with impact 12 mm Alan impact socket. Than unbolt the fork bolts (#26) than fill the oil (your choice of weight and brand). Replace the cap and you are done. I recommend doing this every 10 K miles. Cheap & easy! Clean brakes while at it.

The manual says when you add the new fork oil that you need to measure it with the spacer & spring removed & the fork fully compressed...says it should be 4.4" for FXDWG (approximately 29.6oz) and 4.3" for all other Dynas (approximately 26.6oz) from the top of the tube. Did you do any type of measurement of the oil...or just add the approximate ounces? I'd sure hate to have to pull out the forks because of a a$$ nine design just to replace the oil...I like your method of drain from the bottom. Make much more sense.
#$%! it... I just take the front wheel off, pull the tubes out of the trees, place the tube in a vice with a holder and slowly unscrew the cap while holding a towel over the top of it with the other hand... and when it pops loose, the towel 'catches' it.
Spot on, 1hr job if you take your time. I loosen the caps first so you do not have to put in a vise. Make sure you properly torque everything when reassembling!

My front end on the '07 street bob is getting a little "mushy". Time to change the fork oil to a heavier weight. Long gone are the drain screws on the lower legs! Any one done this themselves? Tips?, tricks?. Dropped by the stealer today to price it out, i was quoted approx. $340.00 + tax!!! I don't think so! Any suggestions?
To just change the oil, I would pull each leg off and invert to drain the oil, then refill, myself. Pulling legs off is a quick and easy job. There are many tools available to refill to proper level if going by level. If you refill by volume, remember there are refill volumes that differ between "wet refill" and "dry refill". Whole job should only be 2 hours, max.
If you are taking the leg apart, then adding drain plugs is a good idea for future changes, but would never drill the leg unless I could completely clean and flush any chips or debris out while it's apart. Pulling lag apart and changing all the bushings and seals is easy, too. Took me about 3 hours to add chrome lowers and change bushings and seals to new. Made a seal driver out of PVC pipe slit 1/2 way down the middle.
