Ok, 1000 miles are up and the first service is scheduled for 26th. Cost for the first service is more than my monthly payment plus insurance combined (i.e insurance for all my toys combined) at $415 min, it’s NorCal! I know.
Now, synthetic oil and all the parts combined is only $78, every thing else is labor. So, in essence, is it worth paying three hour labor at $114 to say that there is nothing wrong on a brand new bike?
I’m not trying to be frugal but I’m tired of wrangling the bike on highways, I need to buy much needed windshield ASAP…let me know what you guys think. Also, it’s not like I’m saving the $300 but instead I can buy new shiny chrome parts!!!I have severe case of infection called HMS, i.e Harley Modification Syndrome!
For 415$ you could buy Craftsman ATV jack, service manual and about 45$ for good oil and a filter and have all the satifaction of doing it yourself!! and maybe enough leftover for a trip to Carls Jr.
dude it is easy! you can do it with basic tools and just the go ahead... if you use a large paint tray to catch the oil you will not even need the jack...
I just looked up the bill for my 1st service and it 1.16 hours for labor.
I usually do my own service but I let them do the first one just to be on the safe side.

muhaha, holy **** thats what they get?...uh what he sez!!
Just let me say this. The service manager at the local HD shop is not too bright. It is a satalight store to the main dealership. They did sales, service, rentals, parts, and motor clothes. Well they pulled the sales and service which had been very busy. Pissed us locals off. Anyway I was asking him WTF the owner was thinking. I asked him if he thought we all loved him so damn much that we would drive the extra 150 miles to let him do our service?
Anyway he said ya it was a bad business decision, especially for the scheduled service. I quote "Those were our gravy!"
Buy a service manual for your bike and do it yourself. Even if your not a wrench guy if you can follow directions you won't have any problems. Good Luck

I do regular oil change on all my toys, my truck cracks out 16 quarts of oil!!!! but just afraid that I might mess something if I do the first service wrong!
