OK.....Got this idea of racking my front end out on my 02 wide glide. First I know I can get longer fork tubes for my front end.
Dont wont to cut the frame and modify it. Has anyone of heard of an adjustable triple tree ? To change the degree of rack ?
Also will I get any front end chatter at high speeds or is this a bad idea to go for this ?
Also, I have the 41MM fork tubes....where would I get longer tubes ?
I have read several articles and actually heard a few of the more well known bike builders address this same question, and their answer is all the same. Do not increase the rake by triple trees! They say its makes the front end too unstable. From what they say,....is that you need to have a pro cut and adjust the rake at the neck and reweld it. And while I am not an expert on this subject, this is what all of the articles I've read will tell you to do. Hope this helped somewhat.
I have an 04 Lowrider I added 3 deg bearings and a Softtail frontend, also 3 deg rake in the trees. I have a total of 38 deg rake on my bike ( stock rake is 34 deg ). I added 2" over fork tubes to compensate for the additional 6 deg of rake and keep the bike level. Pros: Looks really cool, rides stable at speeds above 50mph I have not been above 90 mph but can tell no difference except the bike gets more stable with speed. Cons: At speeds below 45 it starts to get a little floppy. At really slow speeds ( like in a parking lot the front end is a LOT heavier). I am not sure of your WG but in 04 it came stock with 34 deg rake and 3 deg trees. By adding the raked bearing kit you are doing the same thing as cutting and rewelding the neck. However if you choose this route I believe 3 deg is the max you can go with bearings. The picture below is with 4" over tubes. It set me up too high and I have since replaced them with 2" tubes. At anyrate try going here R & B Racing to check your trail. mine is 4.1 inches (well within limits) stock is 5.2.
