I am going to have to replace my rear tire real soon. I just noticed yesterday that the tread right in the center is wearing quite thin. If I buy a tire and remove the rear wheel, can I take it anywhere that changes tires and have the new one put on or does it need to be taken to a motorcycle shop somewhere? This is the first rear tire I've had to change. Thanks.
I would suggest taking it to a motorcycle shop or a shop who offers to do motor bike tires. Our local automotive tire store refuses to work on motor cycle tires..
I do my own tire changing on the garage floor using an old piece of carpet for padding, some tire irons and a lot of sweat!
Hey YellowHawk, bring it to a motorcycle dealer. Hats off to Rodney but the best I can do is dirtbike and atv tires! And if you do try to do it yourself, do it when the tire is warm! Cold tires are a beayatch!!
You might also think about going to the 180 Screamin' Eagle (from the stock 160) It's about 3/4" wider. Got mine off ebay and brought it to the dealer to change. Also can try www.surdyke.com for HD parts approximately 20% list. When you take in to consideration NO TAXES, the saving add up! Shipping is typically 5% of the total?
