Default Tank Emblems and Denim

How have you guys removed the emblems? Does it screw up the paint and how'd you get the glue off. I've seen the post with the guys that have done it on the vivid black, but looking for some denim help.

Thanks

I was surprised at how easy it was. Just peeled right off, taking the adhesive with it. Easier than the rear reflectors were. If yours does leave adhesive on the paint, use 3M Adhesive Remover to get the sticky stuff off. Just be careful with it, the emblems are aluminum and can cut the **** out of your hands.

Warm up with a hairdrier if problems, cold climate here . On a bob as craig says thats probably enough . Thats not enougth for a WG !!! that has to be heated and sawn with cat gut or dental floss in long strokes while your wiff /girlfriend /boyfriend bless holds the hairdrier.

Not sure about thats a good idea on the denim as even polishing changes the look of the paint so using craigs remover /or white spirit or mild polish might effect the area .

In my opinion if it comes off with heat , without cutting you should be able to remove any leftover glue with heat .
When you cut you smear the warm adhesive about , so remover and light scratch remover is necessary .

Thinking about changing it up a little, I'm still not sure I want to mess with the denim...

I probably removed my emblems, wiped off the tank and stood back to look at it in the span of three minutes. The bike is still new so the double sided tape is still nice and pliable. It has yet to harden and make things tougher. If a little bit of the tape stays on the tank and does not easily peel off, the 3M Adhesive Remover does not affect the paint. Just turns the adhesive to goo, ready to be wiped off. No buffing or polishing required. Just keep it from dripping on the rest of the bike, especially the pipes.

Did you use the hair-dryer trick, or just yank on them? I'm mostly concerned with the reflectors for now, perhaps the tank later...THANKS!

I used a hair dryer for the emblem and the reflectors for my Denim Bob. The emblem pulled off like a band-aid. For the reflectors, I heated it up, got my finger under the top part and just kept some pull pressure on it. Every once in a while, I'd slip my finger behind it to keep the adhesive in line since it's kind of rubbery. Just rubbed off any residual adhesive with my finger.

I was too impatient to use heat. Of course, it hasn't been cold here either. My emblems peeled off like a bandaid as well. The front reflector just as easy. The rear was more of a pain as almost all the adhesive stayed on the fender and couldn't be peeled off by hand. 3M Adhesive Remover did the trick. Sounds like everyone's experience is a little different but no one has had much trouble.
