Dyna FatBob - trying to install the Super Loud Horn and the instructions call tor "unscrew the rubber mount from the weld nut on the engine strap"
Of course it sounds easy...
I sprayed it with PB and tried using vice grips on the front part of the stud. However, it seems like the front and rear mounted stud are not the same - i.e., the front stud seems to move independently from the rear.
Is there a trick to removing the rubber mount?
Until I can figure this out, I guess I'll move on to the next project.
Put two nuts on the stud and jam them together, use a wrench on the inboard nut and turn counter clockwise. You may have to turn the rubber mount 3/4 of a turn before it breaks loose.
You have to grip that rubber piece and turn it counter-clockwise. It will come out with the stud. It is all one piece, a stud with a metal disc with a rubber backing. I will post photos in a few minutes, I have to upload them to photobucket.
Here you go. I used a vice grip with a cloth to protect the rubber. I gripped the rubber and turned it counter-clockwise. Once it starts to come out you can see what is going on. Just watch the tank, cause it is hard to protect the underside without taping something on it. Good luck!
Don,t worry if you ruin the rubber piece. I bought one the other day for $6.34. I was shocked. I was expecting HD to charge me around $30-$50. Cheapest I ever got out of the dealership. I bought 2rubber mounts and made a heavy duty mount for my Howards Horns dynamic duo's. It is now mounted on 2 rubber mounts and hardley vibrates at all.
