Default 07 Dyna cam change.

I'm ready to change the cams in my 07 Wide Glide. I can't tell from the manual if I need to drain the oil first. I've never done this on a bike without an oil tank and am wondering if oil will pour out when I remove the cam cover.

I kinda thought that was a good idea but I changed it about a month ago and the manual doesn't mention draining the oil when removing the cam cover to service the cam chest.

drhooligan,
Please post tips and/or a write up if you hit any tricky parts. I am looking at going to a cam from my Stage I running now. What cam did you select?

I decided on a Woods TW6-6. There are some great threads on here about cam swaps with pics. Service manual is a must if you haven't done a bunch of them. I got a PCIII map for a Woods 6 from a guy here on the board that I am going to run until the weather here gets cold. His map on his bike(07 Dyna) did just shy of 90/100. Real strong for a cam only(on top of the Stage 1 stuff). I'm thinking of doing a 103 this winter and will have the cam out of the way at that point as the Woods 6 is supposed to be a good cam for a basic 103 with around 10:1 compression.

I will post pointers if I find anything helpfull but it really appears to be pretty straight forward. Do a search on cam install and you will find some real helpfull stuff. Good luck with your project.

on your dyna, the oil tank is below the cam chest. You don't need to drain anything.
You will get some oil pour from the cam chest, but not more than a few ounces.
