Cam change, will oil spill??

I'm going to attempt to change the stock cams on my '08 wide glide myself and will have many questions in the weeks to come, but the glaring one right now is will I have to drain the oil so when I take off the first cover will oil spill out? Is it really necessary to buy the little locking tool to go in between the two gears or is a wooden dowel sufficient? I have the manual and have done a little looking online and nowhere does it say to darian the oil.

You will loose some fluid, not a whole lot. As far as the locking tool, the last 06-up cam swap I did, I used a piece of wood.

I didn't use the locking toll either and did just fine.

You will loose a little oil when you take off the cam cover, not much though. I used the locking tool. Check out the great and detailed threads on this forum by ATRAIN68. He did a great cam swap write-up with pictures. I went with the Wood TW6-6 on my 2008 WG. Sweet cam.
