I know a lot of yoy have done this...What tool or gadget did you use to get a grip on the baffles to pull them out?

The best technique I've heard follows. You'll need a freezer big enough to hold the pipes, a heat gun (available at Northern Tools or Harbor Freight), a vise, and a helper:

1) Remove shields from pipes.
2) Remove pipes from bike.
3) Remove the screw holding baffles in and thread it back in from the inside of the baffle until it is flush with the outside of the baffle.
4) Put pipes in a freezer overnight.

Recruit a helper and do the following:

1) Take one of the pipes out of the freezer and clamp it in the vice using the rear mount.
2) Have your helper heat the outside of the pipe with the heat gun.
3) Using either a pair of vice grip pliers or Channel Locks, grab onto the screw inside the baffle and twist side-to-side while pulling backwards.
4) Repeat with the other pipe.

this will f*&% the baffle but if you are going to change them !.......Spray inside the pipe with some lube or anti sieze stuff....With a hack saw blade wrapped in a rag cut two slots in the baffle about a inch apart, lift up the tongue that you have just made. Clamp the tongue with a pair of hand held vise grips and using a small hammer proceed to tap the grips away from the pipe end.

Geez, what's this I hear about them sliding right out? I tried yesterday and could not pull them out. I didn't want to pull the pipes and make a big job of it. Anything I shove inside the baffle and pull em out?

remove from bike and tap on ground this may work... If not then freeze technique works good... freeze for an hour remove warm the outer with blow dryer...
you can tap on ground and they should start to slide out. At this point a punch aimed into the set screw hole and hammer will move em quite easily...
With mine the front slid out without doing anything but the rear I needed to freeze...

Jeez all that trouble to remove baffles and I am pretty sure my top one has fallen out whilst riding.
although it now sounds rattley in exhaust especially on decel.
is it possible that baffle has come loose and fallen in rather than out?

cheers
Mac
