Default Click noise ?

My son's Dyna (which I am riding today to Skyline!) makes a click noise as weight is applied or taken off of the front end. Kinda like breaking and then starting off it just has a sorta click come from I think the stem. Is this the clunk people talk of???

It is past do for it's 5000 a little, and I usually do maint myself. I was aware of the washer kit, and planned on getting and installing it prior to my son riding his bike down to FT Bragg, which has been delayed since he is off to jump school and then hopefully 1st phase of his next training.

While BSing, is there anything else I should be looking for on his 06Dyna (late build btw)? Worry bout him taking off on it down I95 and him having a mechanical issue I could have diverted.

Did you try tightening down the stem nut? Kinda sounds like the bearings have finally settled all the way in their races.

I would give the star nut a 1/8th of a turn and see if it helps.

Hello from Richmond area. Your noise may be caused by a couple things.

If it is the front end "clunk", the washer will help take care of it. The fall-away will need to be adjusted properly when the washer is installed.

It could also be caused by the front rotor, although by your description, I don't think this is yoru issue. The Bobs have a two piece floating rotor. While braking, these rotors sometimes will make a clinking noise and it normal.

If it has the wide glide front end, the usual suspect is a loose stem nut. The upper tree is locked between the star nut (below) and the lockplate and nut (above). Lift the bike up off the ground and level it, loosen the fork tube pinch bolts on the lower tree. do a fall away check, then remove the top nut, grease the underside of the nut so it doesn't rip the lockplate tab off, reinstall and torque to 100 ftlb. Recheck the fall away. If it's not 1 to 3 inches, then back off the nut, adjust the star nut accordingly, and retorque, recheck. Repeat as needed. Don't forget to retorque the pinch bolts when you're done.

Somebody fill me in on this 'washer' kit....

If I take the bike off of the stand, hold the front brake in, and push down on the front of the bike to compress and release the suspension, there's a clicking feeling up through the bars, and you can hear it if it's quiet. It's a muffled clicking sound.

I brought this up last year with the service department and was told it's a normal sound. The service guy told me to go out to the showroom and do the same thing on any other Dyna so I'd know he's not bull****ting me.

I tried a few street bobs, a Super Glide, a Super Glide Custom, and a couple Wide Glides. He was right. They all did it.

I don't know if this is the click you're speaking of. I also had a front end clunk that I used the washer kit to fix. But this click has been there since day one.

One last thing... I don't know how bikes show up to the dealer in that I don't know exactly how much assembly is required. If the dealers are responsible for putting together the front suspension and filling them with fork oil, then maybe this dealer is doing it wrong to all of their bikes. But I do know every bike I tried clicked.

Ok cool. Thanks all! This defintely feels like it is coming from the stem not the rotor. At a minimum I will just do the adjustment as per HogDoctors perscribed procedure. Plus I have the service manual so I have that to refer to doing the adjustment. Also have a m/c jack.

Rode it today about 250 miles up through Skyline & Wash. Ntl Forrest. It did great, but seemed to have a lot of vibration in the bars and rear fender at certain rpms... it was like the rubber engine isolators where not doing what I would expect. Almost was like riding my wifes Sporty (but worse vibration say at 60 in 5th), except it smoothed out with higher rpms and the sporty gets worse at higher rpms and then eventually smooths out again. Maybe the front engine mount? Regardless fun bike to ride
