The lights on my gauge are worthless. Half of them burned out within 4 months. Be sure to reset your trip meter at fill up and refill at around 150 miles.
Mine lasted 15 months before they started acting up. In August I noticed exactly the same thing you did 118811fh. Heck, one time I filled up, The top center light never came on even though the gas was up to the rim, but the 6 bottom lights were lit. After 20 miles I noticed all of a sudden I had 4 lights, afte 20 more miles I had 2 lights!! What the Heck!!!! Then after 5 more miles I went UP to 3 lights indicating. The next time I filled up, I had two lights on the left, and two lights on the right......and 2 lights completely out in the middle. Anyway, since mine is still covered under warranty, I'm getting mine replaced without any expense to me, along with the flush mounted gas cap, which isnt sitting flush anymore either. This will be the second time that's been replaced.
So, I feel your pain. I always reset my trip odometer and know I usually get 47mph on country roads. When I hit 150, I start looking a Shell station.
Mine does the same thing only when I get low on fuel my last 2 blue lights jump back & forth between blue & red. Had the gauge about a year and usually when it turns red I have about a gallon left. But good advice from others always set your trip when filling up.
