has anybody put a new or custom fender on there bike.i want to bring it closer to the tire.i'm not sure if i should use a half inch or a 1 inch hose to set up for the holes before i drill them.any recommendations would help alot. i just know i want it closer than the stock fender, thanks everybody.
yep... i bent and cut my bracket and mounted a fat bob fender to the bike... using the stock bracket... alot of guys have done mods to their fender... the easiest way is just to drill new holes in the bracket to drop it a bit closer
i know that would be easier. but i want to put on a longer fender i think the stock fender's are just to small.the one i'm looking at is called the duster sure it will cost more this way. but i think it will be worth it i got guy that will paint it and put a great paint job on it at a great price.the paint will cost the most that and the clear.
You will need to position the fender on the bike and observe the flow of the lines to determine where to mount the fender in relationship to the tire face. I would say I never bring a fender closer than 1/2" on a bike that is ridden rather than a show bike.
Do you have a fender already or are you looking for one? I have "glass sport fender that I'd liked to sell if it's the kind you want. Its made by Sumax.
ron thanks for the offer. but your fender is'nt much differnt than the one i got. the one i'm looking at is longer in the back.i ride the road alot and i'm trying to keep stuff off the front of the engine.but again thanks.
I've been looking at new fenders since a guy backed into my bike and bent the original. The problem I'm seeing is with the fact the mount holes are both on the rear of the fork leg. Looking at the other bikes, like the FLs and FXsoftails, the fork lowers all have mounts on the front and rear. Joe's idea of using the old bracket in some way seems like a good approach but the fenders I'm looking at are full shroud and will cover the mounting bracket completely.
Good luck with yours and keep us posted.
answering your question about the hose, i used 1/2'' clear hose for mine. 1 on each end and 2 in the middle to get uniform spacing. then i mocked the fender to mark the holes for drilling. then remove, drill, paint and reinstall.
