Default Changing exhaust

Just curious if anyone has any tips on changing exhaust. I want to change out my Vance and Hines shorts for Vance and Hines long shots and I would like to do it myself. I am not a big wrencher, but I like to tinker around a bit, is there anything I need to know. Any adjustments I need to make to the carb or engine?? and what do I need to go about it. Thanks for any input..Also I will be selling the shorty's, send a pm if interested...Good price and good shape..

how much for the shortys?

anyways, you'll have an easy time, it's a nothin job. may take you an hour or 2 depending on your wrenchin skill. just don't forget to get new exhaust gaskets from your hd shop and install those with the new pipes.

as long as you don't mess with the air cleaner you're good to go. If you already have pcIII you'll and the high flow A/C you'll need a new map for the new pipes. good luck

Thanks..I am not sure what to ask for the shorts. I guess a reasonable offer and I will decide from there

Since you're replacing V&H with another V&H, you should only need new gaskets. Everything should be straight forward.

Make sure you tighten the flange nuts according to the sequence in the Service Manual. I didn't and it caused a vibration that took forever to track down.

wow I never thought of that! I just wrapped my pipes and reinstalled. The bike is smoother and sounds even better than before. I think I may not have followed the torque sequence the last time I had them off to paint them. I definately followed the sequence this time.

one think you will need to reuse the head clamps and snap ring so snap ring pliers a must for the switch.

not sure this is all true... it may be... but you are going from a long pipe to a short... the name brand does not play a part in that... you have alot more back pressure than you will have on the short shots... replace the gaskets put on the pipes and take it for a ride... if you get popping out of the pipes (and i would bet $$$$ you will) you will just need to jet it... call V&H tell them your set up and bike and they should be able to tell you what jets you will need to run smoooooooth as glass... jet replacement is CRAZY easy!
