Hey Dyna people. I heard the Fat Bob is a great handling bike, and more sporty then other Harleys. What are your experiences with it? I am looking at maybe getting a 2009 CVO Fat Bob, and am curious to how it would compare to a Fat Boy, which is also a choice I am considering.
Also if someone could point out the differences between Dyna and Softail for me as I am a complete noob.
Also if someone could point out the differences between Dyna and Softail for me. Look at the seat position. You can get a much lower seat on a softail. On a Softail the shocks are under the frame. Dyna shocks are on the side like a Sportster.
Softtails suck - Dyna's Rule! As far as advice on the Fat Bob - if you have a bad back (or don't want to get one) stay with the stock shock, don't lower it. Other than that, I love mine and I've had all types of Harley's. Just kiddin about ST's - they are awesome, I just prefer Dyna's.
My first Harley was a 94 Fatboy. I rode it for a long time and many miles. I loved that bike until I got my first dyna wide glide in 2002 and I never looked back. There's no comparison between the two in my opinion. The dyna handles MUCH better and it's much more comfortable to ride. I just picked up a Fat bob in May and have put about 6k on it so far. It is a superior handling Harley and also great fun to ride and very comfortable. It's dynas only for me until I become an old fart and decide to get a bagger.
I love mine. I've only had it about a month but so far the thing is just amazing. It's so easy to ride and manuever. Mine has the mid controls so I think that between that control setup and the drag bars, it gives it a really aggressive rider position that is very confident inspiring. Almost too inspiring.
The only other bikes I've ridden have been a street bob (which was pretty nice too) and a Road King (also nice), so while I don't have a lot of experience with a wider range of bikes, I can say that of the other 2 the fat bob was my favorite. It just has a way about it that makes you feel like a badass.
I have an '09 Fat Bob. Just put 500 miles on it in about 5 days. For a bike of its size, it handles pretty good. I'm still trying to dial in the suspension right now - either I have too much preload, or not enough rebound damping - so in bumpy tight corners, I get bounced around a little.
Other than that - it's pretty awesome. Haven't dragged a peg yet - but did drag a heel -- which is pretty amazing that a 670 pound bike would instill enough confidence to ride at that speed through a corner.

Oaklander,
In a right hand turn, you will drag the lower muffler along the road before you drag the peg (I have forward controls). Haven't managed to touch on the left hand side.
I have over 4000km on the FB and find the bike to be easy to ride and very "chuckable" into a corner. I have the rear shocks set to 3, a good compromise for one or two up.
Colin.

I have just over 1000 miles on my 08 Fat Bob and it's great ! I traded in my 07 Sportster which I though was very easy handling but under powered and rough riding. I felt that the Fat Bob looked so big and awkward but after riding it for a while it is much better handling than my Sportster was and rides much smoother on bumpy streets with the big tires. I feel that the Dyna Fat Bob is much more nimble and responsive than even the Softails that I have ridden and I really don't have a lot of faith in the Softail rear shock system, but that's just my opinion.
I have been riding for over 40 years and I am really impressed with the Fat Bob !
I went to HD to buy a XB12X and them saw the Fat Bob and fell in love with it. I have around 2500km on it and have a smile on my face every time I ride it. One pice of advice would be to pick the food controls according to your riding style.
