yeah its normal.unless its to a extreme get it looked at. My SE dyna vibrates some but not a hole lot. Guess it never really noticed coming from a 91 sporster 883...you want to talk about vibratation...
Dynas are rubber mounted so they don't shake themselves apart at idle and they smooth out as they wind up. Its just a dyna thing. Don't worry about it. It's the reason my wife prefers the stock seat on short rides around town
Your buddies nighttrain, I believe, has a counterbalanced B type engine. While dynas have the A type.
Doesn't sound like you know a whole lot about the bike you bought, and the answers your getting aren't very good either. The motor in your bike is "balanced" as all motors have to be to run without destroying themselves, but being a 45 deg Vtwin with both rods on a common crank pin it would never be real smooth without a couple of counter rotating balance shafts that the softail bikes have. They are also solidly mounted to the frame.Your bikes motor is the same motor without two balance shafts and it is rubber mounted to the frame, thus the shaking until you get moving.
if it did'nt i would worry. go ride before you know it harley goes to alot of trouble for you to enjoy it.beside's once you get up to speed smooth as a baby's butt.
Dyna Vibes that ia what we pay for! but it does not hurt to check mounts and make sure they are tight but it sounds normal
As others say S/T have B motor with counter balance

I'm starting to get the impression its nothing to worry about........ lol. Guess I'll just have to keep the rpms above 2 grand as much as possible. Shouldn't be hard to do!

So why wouldn't Harley counter balance the Dyna's too? How much more could it cost? And are the newer dyna's with the 1584's any better in this regard?

I also read that the 04 Low riders are an inch or so longer (length and wheelbase) and have more rake than the 08-09's (32 vs 29)..... Is that correct and if so why did they do this?
