I have an 06 street bob and love it. Bought it for it's looks and the fact that I wasn't a long distance rider. Since then, I've gotten a quick detach windshield and now am considering some saddlebags.
Problem:
I want quick detach saddlebags, but don't want to do turn signal relocation kit. Was hoping someone out there knows of some bags that'll be on and off quickly, without relocating turn signals. Thanks go out to 02 Low Rider (sp?) who has some from Harley but they're rather permanently affixed.
Anybody have a solution for me? Read a lot of threads and don't see much talk about this.
You can't do quick detach on a Street Bob unless it's a throw-over, because quick detach systems require use of the two mounting points on each strut...one of which is taken by the signals.
I guess I mis-used or butchered the terminology. Throw overs would be what I'm looking for then I guess.
Does this help? Anybody know of any good ones? Anybody wanna part with some old ones? I don't plan on using them that often so I don't care too much about looks.
I got some I'm happy with from Willie and Max. Synthetic leather, but the price is RIGHT. Mine were $211 including the hard mount kit. Although I don't think they'd work without the turn signal relocation.
www.leatherneckjim has some nice throw-overs. I started with those on my Low Rider, but very soon cut the yoke and mounted them with Easy Brackets and moved the tail lights.
I would recommend you use the saddlebag mounts with the throw-overs to keep them from flying up and out of the rotor and spokes/wheel.
Any good throw over slant bags will work they will also slowly but surely ruin your paint. The problem is with the solo seat Street Bob there's no way to completely hold the bags perfectly still when you ride. As you go down the road the wind will cause them to move around slightly and they will rub wear marks in your paint. If you have a two up seat it can be bolted down on top of the yoke and with some padding it will keep the yoke from scratching your fender. Then you will need to secure the bags to your lower shock mounts to keep them from flapping in the wind.Easy Brackets will solve all of this but will add about 150.00 to the price not including relocating your signals. Oh yea and they rattle to beat all hell too.Notice there are no bags on my bob?
