A buddy of mine replaced his FXDC seat with a mustang seat a week after he purchased his bike, and sold me the stock 2 up seat for 50 bucks. I have a stock FXD single seat, but plan to put the 2 up seat on it occasionally when the need arises. My question is about the strap that came with it, is it more for show? Or is it required to be installed for safety reasons etc ?
you don't need it if thats what your asking like wayne said. I put on a sundowner and when i did i took the strap off and thru it in the tool box, i got a solo seat also i pealed the bumpers off the fender cleaned up the fender and i got another bolt for the hole for a solo seat i bought new bumpers and attached them under my solo and two up seat i can change out seat in min or two.

Thanks ! I thought it might just be for show, or maybe a place to store gloves or for a passenger to have something to hold on to etc, but was not sure, then i started thinking maybe it was for lateral support of the seat...Thanks again.
I don't know that it's required by law but it certainly is a pain if you change seats very often as I sometimes do. I don't let anyone ride with my without my sissy bar attached so it isn't an issue. At first, it was nice to have a place to slide a pair of gloves under or a hat to wear to cover up the "helmet hair" but I now have a small bag up front for those things. The straps for both of my 2-up seats are sitting at the bottom of a box.
here in Fl. it is supposed to be required by law if you do not have a sissybar for 2up riding. Something for pax to hold onto.
Federal strap law repealed 2006. Fl followed with a repeal 316.2095 shortly afterwards.
Tests showed the use of the strap would upset the balance of the bike.
Some states, like Ca, still require the goofy things. Buttheads
