I kind of mucked up. On Saturday I installed Khrome Werks slip-ons then rode it to the dealer. Sound quality was rad over stock. At the dealer they installed my SE heavy breather AC and did the Stage 1 download. Trip home rocked - performance increase was noticable. Then I put the XiEDs on. Rode a bit on Sunday. Didn't notice anything different from the trip home on Saturday. Rode to work and back today. Seems like the bike was cooler on the trip to work. Ride home was horrible - roads closed and accidents - and the bike got hot. Seemed like it was about as hot as it was before the mods in similar traffic. But I didn't ride it enough after the mods and before the XiEDs to know it the bike was cooler with the XiEDs. But the XiEDs sure didn't keep the bike cool tonight. I'm thinking it's time for an oil cooler and a fuel management device.
I have KW 3" HP slip-on's and XIED's with stock air cleaner. My bike seems a lot cooler than when it was stock. But if I'm in a LOT of stop and go traffic it will still get hot. Don't know there is anything you can do about it. It's an air cooled engine and without airflow it's gonna get hot if you are not moving etc. But still with the XIED's it's much better than stock. When I checked mine with a infrared heat sensor it was about 40 degrees cooler than stock.
I'd ride it a bit more and see how it goes. I love mine.
Yep, the XIED's are not some sort of magic pill that will keep your bike from getting hot in traffic.
No airflow across the cylinder fins and that engine is gonna get hot, no way around that. Now the debate becomes how hot is too hot? Lot of different opinions on that too.
The XIED's "should" keep it somewhat cooler though, but not sure if you could notice it without actually measuring it somehow.
Very easy to install. The rear cylinder one plugs in under the seat and is easy to plug in and tuck back in out of the way.
Like Donny said, the front cylinder will unplug under that plastic cover behind the voltage regulator. Then you have to use a tie-wrap or two when you plug in the XIED. Make sure you get the cable sung up against the frame rail, so it looks like a good clean factory install.
One of the stock connectors is actually attached to the plastic cover, and don't think the cover can be unsnapped without taking the regulator off.
I had my front XIED inside the plastic cover in a way that without taking it apart, you would never think it was anything other than stock. It fit perfectly.

This is how I mounted mine. Its hidden behind the plastic cover and you can't tell its there.
I know this is an old thread, but I am hoping you all might get this. I am planning on getting them for my 2012 wide glide and this thread has helped me, but where did you ground the xieds?
i just installed xied,s yesterday on my 2008 fat bob. one under seat. super easy and one in front under voltage regulator. Little tougher only cause had to lay on ground and tougher to drink a beer that way but you dont have to take off regulator. Just unsnap plastic cover and disconnect the connector. insert xied and just get alittle creative and zip tie it up so its no hanging down. You dont have to do anything else. Connectors r water tight from factory. do not use electrica lvaseline on it. Took 15 min. from beginning to end. Seat of the pants test. Nicer throttle response especialy when shifting from gear to gear. For the money its worth every penny. xied,s are not gonna add 20 hp so you really have to feel how the bike runs as your clicking thru the gears. My plugs were whiter than white. thats really lean and not good for any engine. Stupid EPA. Haven't checked plugs yet but im sure they are not as white as before. More fuel equals a cooler engine plain and simple
