Default Andrews Roller Cam Conversion
Anyone installed their conversion kit to run the new style cams? Can you get everything you need through Andrews or do you still need to get stuff from HD? Is it worth the money? This is for an 05 Dyna. Thanks

Supposed to be an good complete kit, but I think if your gonna spend the money you should just go gear driven!

I have been kicking around the same thing. Gear drive would be nice, but I was told this by a local builder.
If you want to go with gear drive you need to measure the runout on the flywheels first. If it's more than .003 then you have to stick with chains. If this is the case you can upgrade to the '07 style chains & tensioners with Andrews conversion cams.
If this holds true, wouldnt you then need to tear into it and check the runout before ordering a gear drive kit? What problems would occur if you installed a gear drive setup with more runout than .003? Is it a timing, noise or wear issue?

shouldn't have any run out issues with 05, but ya you always check anyway!

When did they (MoCo) put chain drives in the XL Models (Sportsters)? I sure all four cams are already gear driven to each other. I could be wrong.
