Hey there...Just try searching this forum and you'll find more than enough info to form your own opinion with some degree of confidence, rather than taking someones word for it. There seems to be general consensus to have them looked at around 20 to 25K. Some fail even earlier so it is never to soon, but some have gotten 70,000or more before swapping.

That's good info, do some research on the cam chain tensioners, there is no set mileage as to when to replace them. To install gear drives there is a shaft runout tolerance that has to be met to put the cam gear drive system in.

Keep in mind also that the 07 and up that use hydraulic tensioners are like night and day compared to the earlier spring tensioners. I for one won't be going to gear drive because the new ones are quite good with really long life expected.

Default ???????????

so what fails on them????? sounds like typical lack of quality engineering on HD's part...... at least seems that way to me... but i have an automotive backround so a lot of things that harley does just dont make a lot of sense to me... not bashing because if i didnt love them i would have never bought one... they're an american icon and will sell no matter what and that is part of why i think sometimes quality design on their part is questionable.....................................t im
