Default Do it yourself riser question.

I am thinking of installing the Harley slotted pullback risers but in order to save a little money I thiniking of trying to do it myself. Is this a very difficult project for a novice? I did my own work in moving the blinkers from the Handlebars to the forks and I didn't run into any major snags. Also, where can I get some cheaper parts (risers, cables, etc.)?

It's a piece of cake. The only thing to look out for is the risers hitting the dash. I planned on putting deuce risers on my wide glide but they hit and I had to scrap that idea.

I used Harley risers on my Volusia and they were going to hit the dash too.

I got some aluminum stock and cut spacers to raise them up for clearance.

I then used steel wool on them...they matched the finish on the triple clamp and looked factory.

You can see them in this pic:

Do it yourself, it's easy. JP cylces or Dennis Kirk probably has parts you can use that are cheaper too.

I think I am going to do it. The Harley slotted risers will give me an additional four inches so I don't think I will have a problem hitting the dash (even after the tank lift). I was hoping to find a similar riser for a lot less than the $125.00 at the dealer. Also, am I going to have to pay around $40.00 to $50.00 for each for braided cables (Throttle- X2, brake and clutch)? And what about the wiring? Put it in or leave it out? Is there some type of braided covering for that as well?

it is a job you should be able to do with no problem, just make sure to cover your tank and fender, i saw a brand new fender turned to scrap metal from a set of allen keys hitting it...
