here is a photo of a set of retaining ring pliers that will take care of ALL you retaining rings on your bike easy as pie.... purchased at sears and they come in a package together for like 20 bucks or something....(the package is set up just like my photo so easy to find)
I put this up as many have seemed to have difficulties with clutch cable retaining ring and other situations. So get this set and the rings will be a breeze in all circumstances!
the pliers are easy adjust to both inner and outer rings.

Hey Rounder thanks for the help, that clutch cam snap ring is huge but.....will that small pair fit the snap ring holding the clutch lever pivot pin?
YUP, works perfectly on my 05.I have not used on the 6 speed but I doubt it is all that much bigger(probably same size) than the 5 speed. also have used to remove the retaining ring from exhaust, and the clutch pack ring inside the primary... the small ones take care of all the little rings like the ones on the levers and others. I saw your post and others who have had same problem, so I thought this would help take the guesswork out of what tools to buy.
I have the same set and they do work well. I have had others where the pins that engage the snap ring break on the first use. These have held up great.
I hate having to remove/replace those little circlips for the clutch/brake levers. I have a better than 75% chance of launching the little stinkers across the garage to be eaten by evil creatures lurking in the dark recesses. I make sure I have extras handy.

Ya should replace the little flickers anyway each time ya remove them

This is an old thread, but thought I'd tell everyone I bought these online and picked me up from local store for $11 bucks and change today. Perfect for the snap ring for the clutch lever pivot pin, and the ring for the ball ramp inside the clutch cover. Just FYI.
