I plan on installing apes on my 98' Dyna SG. I have the stock narrow front end. Would 1.4in. bars look ok, or should I stick with the 1" bars?

 

I would still go with 1 1/4 diameter but would try and find a narrower style ape.

 

How high were you going? Depending on what you've got on the bike you might not wan't the thicker look if you're planing on going 16" or better on your ape height.

 

It's all preference...I like 1" bars even with the fat fork tubes.

 

Fatties always easier to run your wires inside of.. I always liked the looks as well..
I prefer wider grips as well.. But I'm a big guy and just feels better.. Check a few out and see what YOU like.. thats what counts..

Mine are 1", I wasn't sure I'd like them that size but I think they fit the bike better than 1.25". I'd try and find as many pics as you can of bikes with different size bars.

 

Mine are 1 1/4 that are necked down to 1" where the clamp is from Hill Country Custom Cycles.

My bro used to have a 2000 LR narrow glide with 16" Wild1 Chubbys and it looked good. bars were wider than trees, but I liked it and never heard anyone say otherwise.

 

I was planning on putting on mini apes (10"), or possibly 12"-14" apes.
