Default What dia. 16" apes to get, 1" or 1 1/4"???

Plan to put a set of 16" apes on my 02' Dyna. Just wondering what dia. bars to go with. I know a lot of guys are using Ø1 1/4" bars & while I'm sure they look proportional on Road Kings & Fat Boys and probably even the '06 & '07's with the 49mm fork tubes, I'm just wondering if they aren't a bit too big of dia. on a front end with 41mm fork tubes. I don't want the whole front end being overwhelmed by a set of bars.
People were using Ø1" bars for a long time before the Ø1 1/4" bars came out.

I'd like to hear some opinions since I don't get around much to see and compare other bikes and their set-ups.

Any real benefits functionally to going with Ø1 1/4" bars? Stronger, less flex, etc.?

Be different. Everyone and their dog is using the chubby bars these days. 1" bars are not a passing fad. They'll never go out of style. I've had both (the chubbys were given to me) and I much prefer the look of the 1" ones, although the hand positioning on myfat barswas nice.

Internal wiring on my 1" too! I think somewhere along the way the chubby bar makers convinced everyone that you had to buy their bars in order to do that, but it's not true.

I had a set of Ness 18" apes. First ones were 1" and internally wired - they looked great and I got loads of comments about them.
I'm just having a new set of forks fitted. American suspension black mambas, they are really FAT!!!
I just felt that 1" bars would look a bit weak with the new forks so I've now changed them to 1.25"

At the end of the day .25" doesn't make that much of a difference, it's just the 1" are more classic looking.

Cheers

Have you guys noticed any flex or handling issues with the 1" dia. bars? Anything particularly noticeable. I ride this thing pretty hard when cornering.

Mine had internal risers - that helped a lot
