When I ride 2up I click them up 1 or 2 clicks depending on if we are taking full saddle bags.
If you will regularly ride 2up you should get HD's. By regularly I mean once or twice a week.
believe me the HD's bucked us off the seat.(I know I was on the bike while it was continuously happening).
the ride is twice as good solo or 2up with the regular over the HD ones I had on my bike...have you also tried both?
I set the preload at 2 or 3 solo and full firm 2up.
185 is very different from 210 when it comes to how these shocks are setup. In reality I think that my weight solo is perfect for the regulars. 2up we are a touch too heavy(we sag a bit more than I would like), but, still too light for the HD springs.
all in all I would tell anyone to avoid progressive and get works shocks! especially since the don't cost any more than the 440's and are built specifically for you and your riding. Why buy off the shelf and suffer when you can have custom for the same price?
I have progressives because I was too ignorant and assumed the works were gonna be 800-1000 bucks... I should have called them before I ever bought these 412 shocks.

Bucked us?? What length shocks do you have? Mine are stock 12.6 length, don't know if that makes a difference. I do know if I set it at 2 on preload it will give me a jolt solo, forgot to lower them once.
We have some pretty old rough roads around here, as many do. I got the HD's because I knew I would be 2up frequently and loaded on road trips. If mine was just short local rides I would have probably gone with standard.
You have to think about all the riding you plan on doing.
Bottom line I am very happy with my 412 HD's

yes, bucked us ... the rebound was too firm in the 11 HD for us so the shocks would compress then shoot up too fast 'bucking us' off the seat. we are discussing a lower shock 11" and I can not say anything about the 12.6" shock only the 11" that is asked about on this thread.
If someone has just $200 to spend on a set of shocks, get the progressives(412 is a good inexpensive shock that will do the job a bit better than stock)...

When someone is looking to spend over $500.... you can buy works shocks for that money, custom built specifically for your weight and riding style.
If someone buy an off the shelf shock for the same money as one that can be built for you by a highly respected(considered by some to be the best)suspension manufacturer, they are doing themselves a great disservice IMHO.

re do your wiring under your fender or you will regret it... doin an 11 in shock and 2 up you will rub and eventually tear out your wiring under there
+1 on progressives over HD... both are lower grade shocks but out of them progressive is the better... if you want awesome shocks talk to to fastharley... he has the best shocks on the market

Great advice Joe, that is why I stayed with stock height, I ripped out wiring running 2up after I swapped to a 160 rear from the stock 150. And that was with stock shocks at the 4th setting, another reason I went HD. Little things can make a huge difference.

I did, they seem to be very helpful and know what they are doing! They build the shock just for you. Right on
