I like it. Just wish they had a less gay name for the fob. Or as the wife likes to says "don't forget to take Fabio with you." Why not call it something like SST=Security System Token.

I never had a problem with the alarm system on the V-Rod. There are good and bad points.

If you even want to move your bike an inch, you gota have the fob with you or the alarm will go off. When working on it, you gotta keep the fog with your or on the bike. There is a way to put the alarm in "travel mode" so movement doesn't make it go off, but I never used that feature when working on the bike.

It was nice because when you parked the bike, it would set the alarm and "chirp" to let you know it was activated. When you came back to your bike, it would chirp to let you know it was deactivated. But you have to have the siren for this feature.

My new Fat Bob has the alarm but no siren, so no chirping.

Some have said they had problems with the battery in the fob goes dead. Mine lasted more than 2 years. But just make sure you remember your code so you can deactiveate the system just in case your fob battery goes dead at an unexpected time.

The one thing to remember, if someone wants your bike bad enough, they WILL get it, doesn't matter if you have an alarm or not. It's just a little more piece of mind.

I have a few questions about the siren. I was considering the siren upgrade also and was wondering does it run through the horn or does it have a seperate unit? Where does it mount and is it loud? Joe you said you added a different siren, what did you use? How was it to install?

I'm not too crazy about have some sort of proximity detector determine whether or not I can start my bike. Those of you who have the Security System on your bikes, what has been your experience with it? Does it work okay, or is it a PIA?
More than likely, you got the "base" security system which will immobilize the bike and flash the lights but doesn't have that annoying chirp alarm. If this is the case, then you should be fine - the system is reliable and beginning with the '07 models (the second year the security system was available), the battery drain was reduced to almost nothing. At least unlike BMW's system, if you forget your fob you can still manually arm/disarm the system - but be sure you remember your PIN and keep the instructional wallet card (found in the owners manual) with you to remind you how to disarm the immobilizer. Don't ask me how I know about this.

The siren does not run through the horn. It has its own, and it is pretty loud, but not 'crazy loud' as Joe described his. I'll probably end up getting the pager though cause nobody pays attention to car alarms. They will pay attention to me when I run outside.

I find the beeps somewhat annoying and wish they could be turned off.

I keep the instructions in my wallet for the day the battery in the FOB goes out, I have the Chirp alarm system. I don't think it will stop someone from stealing if they really want it but it will bring attention to them trying to do it.

can you (just) use the key to start the bike instead of memorizing the fob pin?
