Ok, ok....I am seeing what you're seeing now. I stand corrected. Thanks Sniper.

I might fix it this weekend if it warms up any, but to be honest, the whole thing feels very rigid. I don't want to get into any rattling situations. That **** drives me nuts.

We posted at about the same time and I didn't see your response to gearhead383s comment.

Like you say, it's cold and working outside right now isn't viable but I would change it if I were you when the weather warms up....which isn't for another week according to the people that have the audacity to forecast the weather.

Brrr...I need to do body and paint work and this weather isn't cooperating! <grrr.....brrr>

I walked outside to look at it and what the both of you said definitely makes sense now. I see how the beveled spacer will fit into the recess on the strut cover. It's actually not too bad now. To be honest, that's how the docks were in the box and I (god, forgive me) assumed they went on. I also didn't notice on the install sheet how they had it shown.

Damn it, I hate being wrong.

I should be sleeping now because I start my work week tonight (4pm-4am) with 3 hrs of travel involved. My little princess had me up at 7:15am...thank god she's taking a nap. Thursday are usually hell with her for some unknown reason.

Maybe I'll throw on some shoes and go switch the docks around. Give my air filter time to dry between coats of oil.

Sniper, do you have any welding tools? I got a taillight/turn signals setup and the bracket is just a bit too narrow (6.5") for what I need (7.5"-7.75"). That means I cut the bracket and weld in a piece to make up the difference. Although, would give me a reason to go buy a little welding setup and angle grinder. Lowe's is just 20 miles away.

Ok...I switched it. The backrest now seems to rattle. Maybe that's why people have the issue because they install it right. I may switch it back to the incorrect way. It definitely felt more rigid.

Also, I didn't think of the big *** passenger seat on the sundowner. The upright contact the seat and I can see it rubbing a hole in it if I'm not careful. I'll deal with that as it comes.

You got me thinking that maybe I should turn mine around and space them out just a little with a washer so there is a slight bind.
I have the same seat and the same fears as you. The brackets do have a slight edge on them that could rub through. My thought was to take a piece of clear tubing and cut it length ways and slip it over the sharp edge. Make it small enough that its not noticeable at a glance. Or maybe apply some black tape on the seat where it rubs.
Either way, your thread has me thinking about reversing those mounts... thanks!

Ok, how I had it incorrectly setup (but felt most rigid):

Move spacer on rear dock to front dock. Reverse front dock so bevel is pointing out.

Give it a shot. Took me less than 5 minutes to swap it out. May work for you.

Maybe this could be a resolution to the rattling problem so many have had to deal with.

I've been known to be referred to as an idiot savant, minus the savant part. lol

My passenger pillion rubs my uprights on my detachable too but I don't leave it on long enough to cause problems. The clear hose slit to go over the frame uprights sounds like a good idea.

Sorry SC, you'll have to buy that welder @ lowe's you been looking @ with lust in your eye for sometime now....

What is the easiest way to tell if its a hard mount or removable, with out taking it apart?

The detachable gets mounted on the outside of the struts and uses docking hardware, whereas the rigid gets mounted between the fender and the strut and uses the hardware already present.
