Default Powercommander vs Race Tuner

I have had a look around but can not find any thread relating, can somebody help me.

I went to our local HD dealer to ask about installing a Powercommander on my Super Glyde. He informed they only fit Race Tuner. Can anybody tell me what is the difference between the two, and which one is the better to fit.

I reside in Cape Town South Africa.

Hi Sallies,

happy new year.

I guess we (Spain and South Africa) share the same issue: we are outside the US.

AFAIK, HD dealers will just install the Screaming Eagle PRO Race Tuner, also known as SERT around this forums. And this is the only way they will put the warranty seal on their labor.

PowerCommander is a piggyback system, which means it is plugged between the ECU (the computer managing the Electronic Fuel Injection) and the engine (well, the injectors/sensors/and so on), it gathers data from sensors and alters it so the ECU thinks the engine is not modified (more or less). The PowerCommander III is a very versatile tool, but IMHO it has a drawback: you disable the O2 sensors (in case you have them, 07 dynas and onward). The SERT, on the opposite side is an interface to change the program inside the ECU of your bike. It has also a drawback: its f***nly expensive. At least they are asking me more than twice the US price in Barcelona/Tarragona for it.

Luckily there is the TTS MasterTune which is the previous version of the HD SERT, I don't know the whole history, but the new SERT comes from another company and has some improvements and some drawbacks over the old one (the TTS MasterTune). In any case, you can ask Jamie at fuelmoto (he is usually in the EFI subforum here) for prices of both PCIII or TTS MasterTune.

Oh, and if you have an 09 bike, then you should look at PC V as well, It has an autotune feature an its easier to install than PCIII and so on.

In my case I'll go with TTS MasterTune, I'm not happy to pay the Barcelona MoCo dealer twice the price for a device they don't know how to use.

warper, why don't you buy it from the US (e.g., Zanotti's)? I live in Italy and prices here as well are exceptionally high, but I have been shopping from US with no problems.

PCV -> Power Commander V, new version with wideband 02 sensors, allows autotune, but As far as I know... the wideband o2 sensors have a shorter lifespan than the narrow band ones.

I'll have a look at zanotti's , but I'm more into the TTS than into the current SERT, the only thing I find interesting of the new SERT is the ability of recording without a computer attached.

thanks for the tip, it's always good to check before spending some bucks :P

That is an excellent post.... I also advise you to get the tts mastertune...however, someone in your area has to have experience with it and be able to dyno it correctly... If not go with the SERT. Good chance a performance shop (if you have any convenient to you) will be solid at dynoing the TTS .

Thanks for the tip rounder. Luckily enough I've found a Delphi Certified service in my area, they have a dyno tuning device and so, they are more than happy to put the hands on my bike!

We'll start with one of the closest maps to my final setup and fine tune from there. But first I have to order the TTS =)
