Since you're in California this might not apply...but if you plan to use a battery tender you can plug into the same receptacle on your bike and get 12v there. Otherwise, it's as simple as connecting a couple of wires to your battery. How creative you want to get with plugs and wiring is up to you.
I have the Solar Monkey and Power Monkey ... the power monkey is a device you charge at home and you can then recharge an ipod and your phone when their batteries are low... it can handle a lot, i.e. you can charge an ipod more than once from it.
I also have the solar monkey which is a solar charger.
Both have all the adapters you need for ipod, and all kinds of phones.

+1 for using the tender plug. You can get extentions if you need at walmart / autozone. I had though about puting a standard 12volt plug on my bike, but then I just make a wire with the 12 volt on one side and the tender 2 prong plug on the other side. -- I can take a picture of that if anyone would like.
alot of great responses thxs everyone.. I do like the plug and play idea to go with my Harley Charger which has a plug and play. I already ordered a extra harness a few days ago for my dirtbike. I guess i can experiment with it to see if i can get it to do what I want. I will post pictures after.
I, too, use the tender harness with an outlet plug attached it it. its a lighter receptacle from walmart. cost about 3 bucks. I can plug in cell phone charges, and other items. I used it for a small air compressor last Fall. you have to carry a bigger fuse for the air compressor.
You will have to give me a week or so. My camera is broke and I need to buy a new one. It's a simple mod that took a few minutes and now is a staple in my saddle bag.
