I thinking about putting the Mini Ape Hangers on my Super Glide. H-D makes some for Sportys, FXD and FXR's. Part No. 56563-95. Has anyone put these on thier FXD? What cables did you change out? I heard you all you need to change is the brake line, and all the other cables and wires are okay. Comments?
I know for sure some people have done that...I've seen the pictures on this site. (And they look great!) I bet if you search around a bit, you'll find them....if they don't post first.
I replaced mine with mini-apes from Wild1. They have the same rise and pull back as the stock Wide Glide bars, but the angle of the hand grip is a lot more ergonomic. A very comfortable bar. It's also a thicker/heravier bar, so it dampens vibration better than stock.
Since it's essentially a stock replacement, you use stock replacement hose and cables.
The new stock WG bars are fatter, and look better. But you can't use them on a SG because the clamps and risers are the wrong size. Wild1 gets around that by necking down the bar at the clamp area.
I put HD Mini Apes on a couple weeks ago (2003 FXD). I had to replace clutch cable and front brake line. I got the ones for a stock wide glide and they fit perfectly. The stock FXD throttle and idle cables work fine but you will need to re-route them so they do not run between the tripple trees. (I did change mine thouge with stock length braided stainless cables.)
