Question on handlebars
We added 6" pullback risers with drag bars that also have some pullback to them.
All he did was bend the metal on the brake line.
I ordered the same cables when I put the same setup on my Bob. I have a stainless brake line that is longer because I also added an additional 3" spacer under my bars.
I have the fat mini apes, and the fat risers are 2" taller than stock. I currently have the stock cables/br-line for a streetbob installed, but they are a little more snug than I would like. Just ordered new cables, and ordered them in a +4 over what came stock on my bike.
If you are putting new bars on, then you need to figure in not only rise of the bar, but the width (end to end) of it as well. The stock buckhorn is about 31" end to end and about 6" rise total. So if you install bars that are a bit narrower, you can increase the rise of those bars and use the same cables/br-line.
You really need to find the bars you want, or at least want to try, and then figure your cable needs.... not the other way around
Just remember, stock cables are pretty inexpensive, and here is some more tidbits:
FXD -2006-2009 (will use this as a base)
FXDC - 07-09: cables are 2" longer.
FXDB - 06-09: cables are 4" longer.
They all fit the same controls.
When I was deciding if I really wanted to go with fat mini apes (I really like how they look) I purchased some stock take-offs from a forum member's Streetbob. Picked up the bars for 40buck, the whole cable/br-line set for 50 bucks, and tried them out, rode around for several hundred miles. I liked them, so I dropped coin for the fat mini apes, fat risers, chrome controls, mounts & switches. New cables are finally on the way.
But brand new stock cables can be had for about 17 bucks each. IIRC.
