Default How far can I go?

2014 Super Glide FXDC. Does anyone know how long of a riser I can install using the stock cables?

I was thinking of adding 6" pull back risers, but that might be too much for the stock cables. If that's the case I was wondering if I would be better off getting mini apes, which I know new cables would then be needed.

I would like to do this without replacing the cables if I can, but, in order to get my ride set up for long runs I'll do what I need to in order to get it set up where I can 'kick back'.

(just re-reading this I think I already came up with the answer , but all comments welcome)

Do a mock up using a coat hanger as handlebars. That should give you an idea. You don't want the cables to snug or it will interfere with turning.

I was thinking about doing something like that or even removing the handle bars and having someone hold them in place. The more I think about it though, I might have to get new handle bars and cables but I won't know until I do some experimenting.....

I have a switchback, and have successfully installed 6" pull back risers without redoing any of the lines. The dealer said nothing was overly tight.

I can help you with that....I just did my wifes new 13' FXDC. I put 10" mini ape on hers so she can reach the bars. The clutch, brake and throttle cables were as stretched as I felt comfotable before they got unsafe and looking stupid. The grip controls wiring would have been fine but I spliced 10" of 18gauge wire on and they had lots of slack. The indicator lights were the ones I should have added 12" to which they were short.
I was going to put 6 1/2" risers on it originally but decided against it cuz it woulda looked odd with the original bars so I went with the stock riser and between the riser and the 10" bars it looked real good putting the height at approx 12". I put a solo seat with an agressive backrest from Mustang and that made it perfect..

Thanks for the info and the photos TUCCI, from what I see in the photos that would make it real close to what I'm looking for.
