I"ve traded my 05 1200 Custom on a new 09 Super Glide Custom, which will be my second time to own a FXDC. As soon as I got rid of my 05 FXDC I knew I had made a mistake. However, this new version will make up for the error. So many improvements!
I need a little help please. I'm leaning toward adding Screaming Eagle slip ons. However, I don't want to add a Stage 1 and remap right off the bat for $$ reasons. When I added SE's to my 07 EGC a while back, I did the whole package all at the same time. I'm satisfied with the results, and would do it again, but the economy is a lot different now than it was then, so I would like to add pipes now, and then add the Stage 1 and remap later. The dealer is saying this won't work. He says if I add the SCreaming Eagle slip ons, I've got to add the Stage 1 and remap at the same time. Is this correct, or is he just trying to sell more stuff? Interestingly he says I can add Rush slip ons without the Stage 1 and remap, but I'm not wanting to go this route. They sound great, but I'm rapidly loosing my hearing, and the Rush pipes are just louder than my old ears can stand.
There are a lot of varying opinions as to when the remap is needed when changing exhaust and air boxes. I think you will find the general consensus is that when just doing slip ons and no hi flow air cleaner, remap is not necessary.
I have the SE slip-ons on mine with no remap and it runs good. I would think the rush slip-ons would flow better and then be more likely to need a remap over the SE's.
i cant for the life of me remember where i was just reading it on here but somone was saying that the SE slip ons where made so that you wouldnt have to remap.. So i would say that you wouldnt have to get the Stage 1 and remap.... Best of luck..
I'd try just the slipons without the remap. It should be fine. If it pop's or doesnt seem to run right then remap. Your EFI should compensate. Look at it this way. A guy buys a stock Harley with EFI and rides at 10,000 Ft. Another buys one and Rides at Sea level Both should run fine without changing anything. The old days we would need to rejet Higher altitudes. That is what the EFI is designed to do , minor compensations. So I think you will be fine with a minor pipe change.
