Before I can ship my rims off to be chromed, I need to get the bearings pulled. And then they'll need to be replaced. I'm told I need a shop to do this or I need a bearing puller. Is that tool expensive and/or is it specific to the bearing size/bike model or is it a generic tool that a parts store might have? And if they have to be pulled, what is required to get them back in?
Appears there is a tool for removing and another for installing. Since it's not something I'll be doing very often, I guess I may as well let the chromer remove them and let my indy reinstall them. Thanks for the feedback.
Anyone know what size the bearings are on 07 dynas? 1" or 25mm?
Hmm, maybe it's not too expensive. I just reread chrome pros pricing and it's $25 PER WHEEL for bearing removal and $25 PER WHEEL for bearing race removal (whatever that is). This stuff is foreign to me guys - help me out if you can. I know what bearings are but don't know what a "race" is or if it's something I even need to be concerned with.
Just an FYI - there are no shops where I live. I'd have to take them 60 miles away to get someone to remove them for me and then back once I'm ready to put everything back together.
My dealer pulled & replaced mine for almost free (I took him the rims I pulled off the bike) so long as I bought the new ones from him. I think he charged me $10 to pull em. Bob
i bought my wheel bearing puller on ebay 22.00. took less then 5 minutes unistall and less then 5 minutes to install, less then 10 minutes the whole job.. there is nothing to it at all. dont have the dealer do it, or if you want to waste the money then thats up to you. here is the link the the one i bought, plus you learn something and you get to keep the tool. jackyl
