Default 7" headlight wireing help

Ok, so I got a new 7" (bates style mount) headlight and there are 5 wires attached to it, they are
white
green
brown
black
blue

My question is, looking at the wiring diagram in the book, it shows
white
yellow
black
----------
ow
black position lamp (HDI Only)

So I have alot of wire colors not matching up. I am looking for some help here. I have yet to look at what is actually on the bike now, it is stock 06 street bob. I am not sure what HDI Only is for either.
Any help is welcomed!!!

PS Will be making the headlight black, also got a set of black valve covers, new billet black grips, pancea tail light smoke, and laydown license plate.
Thanks for any responses!!!

Didn't come with a wiring diagram? Does it have a main bulb and a running light?

It's a fair bet that the black is ground. From there, if you have a battery handy, you can check the other wires to see what turns on. This is something I would do, if there were no diagram sent. However you may not be comfortable with doing that.

Yep, there was no wiring diagram.
As far as lights, there is the main one and then a small one seperate from the main one, assuming that is the running light.

So you have to determine which wires are for the main bulb, and which are for the running light. Like I mentioned, you may need to use a battery or some 12v power source to determine that. I would think 3 wires for the main bulb, and 2 for the running light. Guess you have to determine if you want to wire the running light in.

If you have a volt/ohm meter, check to make sure none of the wires are connected to the shell of the assembly. Then use the battery method to find which wire does what.

My bet is:

White
Brown ------> Headlight
Black

Green
Blue ------> Running light

But that's pure assumption on my part without testing as mentioned.

Archergodwin,

I apreciate the idea. I should have thought of that to begin with, my bad. I do feel comfortable doing this. I will take apart the light (got to paint it anyways) and see what goes where. Then using your idea, i will see what powers what.
Thanks for the help!!!!

Member Gary7 just installed a Custom Chrome, 7", Fat Boy headlight on his 2009 Super Glide. Why don't you look him up in the members list and PM him? I'm sure he can give some insight. The wiring should be the same I'd think.

Here's the thread that Gary7 posted last week on his 7" headlight conversion:

I can't help him. The wiring harness that came with the CC unit had the same color wires as the OEM wiring harness, so it was simple plug-n-play.

Hook a wire to the +bat, touch each one, one at a time. If I'm thinking straight, the 2 that spark should be ground, and the others will light up something, one high, one low, one running. Pretty safe to assume at least the black is a ground.
