Angry Noise in Primary

I need help, when my fxdbi is at an idle it sounds fine but when I hit my throttle a little it sounds like a clanking or knocking sound is happening under my primary cover. It only happens when I'm putting the bike under power, if its at a steady rpm I don't hear it anymore. Anyone have any input on that?

Thanks,
Jereme

primary bearing it could be but the primary bearing is a VERY loud noise! you know it is happening! check all your bolts and make sure they are nice and tight... if anything open your derby cover and look in there!

When my primary bearing started going out it started as a noise like he described before it got very loud. But i would do like he said and check everything to see what is going on.

Might be your stator coming apart. From what I read the IPB is also noisy with the clutch pulled in. Better take a look.

Wifes 06 stator fell apart, later ones are modified to avoid the fault.Strip casing off and look is the best solution.

Maybe worth checking the compensating sprocket (bolt torque) and clutch. These have been noted to cause similar symtoms.

Drain and pull primary case. Look for pieces and and adjust the the primary chain if loose. With the cover off you can see most everything and it's not that hard of a job, really.

I'd say the Rotor around the Stator came off, the clanking is the screws rattling around inside the primary. It happened to my 06 street bob back in Sept. Oh yeah,,,,the engine & battery light came on too. Drain the primary oil and look for copper flakes in the oil.
