I have stopped by the dealer for a few parts but I would never let them work on my bike. If I can't do it because of time or special tools, I take it to a private shop. The owner there appreciates my business.
I don't get it with Harley. Its like the service writer automatically thinks your an idiot if you bought one. Especially if you didn't spend 4k on chrome before you rolled it out the door.
If mine had a wobble under warranty and the dealer gave me a hard time with no avail, I would get rid of it. Make sure they write it up everytime you bring it in. No good old boy crap in the parking lot. Harleys have a lemon law too.
You have made an investment that many people dream about and most will never realize.
i have an 08 street bob and i have mine on the highway up to at least 90 maybe more and mine was solid no problems. i would try to get the front tire in the air like the other guys said here and check to see how much play you have in the trees. or actually just bring it to the dealer its still under warranty.
As most of you know I brought my 09 street bob in under warranty for a high speed wobble.
They stated they adjusted the neck bearing and inflated the front tire.
Been great weather last week here in Oklahoma, so I have been riding everyday for over a week.
Finally hit 500 miles today so on my way home from work I took the Turnpike home instead of going all the way through town at lower speeds.
65 Great Ride 70 Feeling good 75 WOBBLE WOBBLE !!!!!!!!!!
If you push it another mile over the back follows ...............
So I slowed down to 70 which feels good and tested it 2 more times up to 75 on my way home and both times severe front wobble.
Round 2 at the Stealer will keep you guys updated.
Gonna have a family motorcycle mechanic check it out first ..........he stated neck bearing adjustment or replacement now, tire cupped, Spokes, warped rotor, primary belt possibly off ( I did look like it had more room on one side then the other)..........
$14000 for a Street Bob and nothing but a Headache .....
Starting to miss my 07 1200 Custom ............It was solid as a rock
My Street Bob did that exact same thing when it was new. The high speed "Devil's Dance". I didn't think too much about it and my searches pulled up many other identical cases. I just figured it was the nature of the beast.
That first winter, I changed bars/risers/bushings, rear shocks, and front springs and fork oil. The wobble has completely disappeared at all speeds (up to 110).
I don't know which part made the difference.....maybe it was a combination. Removing the wobble wasn't even my goal, just a pleasant surprise.
lemon is not a policy with harley. it's a federal law. if you bring your veh back to the dealer 3 times for the same problem and they cant fix it they have to buy the veh back. thats why you have to make the service writer document your visit not just go out the parking lot and give you some bs story. this is also why on your 3rd visit they will probably keep your bike untill they fix it which could mean a very long time without your bike. they're not stupid. they know if they release the bike to you the 3rd time and it's not fixed they're screwed.
Yea, that sucks...you should'nt have to change out anything at your expense on a new bike under factory warranty. That bike is a safety hazard and they should be required to fix it.
My '09 SB with stock suspension, bars, etc. doesn't have any wobble at all...I've only taken it to 90, maybe 92mph, but it was stable w/no wobble at all...and that was with a windshield on the bike at the time.
There is definately something wrong with your bike...it is unsafe to ride.
I wonder if the cups in the neck are seated properly. Bearings tend to settle with use, its possible that the bearings weren't pressed all the way in when the bike was assembled and now they are starting to settle into place.
I would have your family mechanic or you test the fall away again. Could be worth another tightening.
