Ok here are a couple of options for those who are looking for something different. Last summer in the garage of my buddy who is an HD salesmen we began talking about blacking out forks bars etc.
This may not work for everyone but here are some suggestions. The upper part of my forks between the trees I wrapped in flat black cloth hockey tape. It looks pretty nasty and it cost about two bucks for a roll. I have the same tape still on them and it goes well with the flat black. Foster617 over in the sporty forum wrapped my old mini apes with black cloth hockey tape and reinstalled and it looks bad ***.
Another suggestion when your bored like I get in the winter is to wrapp the shift linkage. I wrapped my shift linkage from end to end with a white and black hockey lace and then secured the tail end with a dab of gorilla glue, over 2 k miles ridden last year and its still tight as a drum. This actually looks quite unique. Black hockey lace looks even better and I have done that as well.
I also used a black hockey lace to wrap all my cables that are exposed in my triple trees where they come together. Its a simple mod but the asthetic out come is quite original. I will be posting pics of all this soon. Hopefully tonight.

I did the same thing except I used leather.
shift linkage
forks and brake line
brake line holders
clutch cable
grips
used a lace maker tool I got from Tandy and cut up some old chaps
sory if I highjacked Mullkid, just thought I could give another take on the same idea. I actually might use the tape method on the King bars till I can afford some black mini apes.
No worries Xkrome. That looks mint nice work. Im glad Im not the only one out there with extra time on my hands to fathom things like this up. That linkage looks killer.
is hockey tape and hockey lace 2 different things? and where would I find it/them?
Yeah, hockey tape is what you wrap the grip and blade of the stick with, the lace is what goes in your skates. Check a sporting goods store that sells hockey gear, or a skate shop if you have one in the area.
I did something similar with my braided cables.
After realizing that they did not match up well with all the black I did on my front end, I used electrical tape to "black them out".
Cheap and effective method until I can shell out the money for black cables.
