Wide tire
Hello everyone,new to the site and from what I see so far there is alot of info here. I have one question, I ride a 91 FXR that is in need of a new rear tire. I would like to go with a 140 but the 1 1/2 belt looks close. Is there an easy conversion for a 1 1/8 belt? Thanks.

It depends on what you consider "easy". Any time you change a belt you'll have to pull the complete primary apart (primary chain, clutch, starter pinion, etc.) to get a new one on. Not like the old days of just finding the master link. I've built some bikes, most being softails and rigids. Some builders I've talked to say their rule on tire to belt clearance is if they can get a dollar bill between them then that's enough. I like a little more daylight than that, if you've got an eighth of an inch then you'll have plenty. Measure your clearance on your existing tire. You should be able to find a chart that has the overall width of your current tire and the one you want to use. Whatever the difference is between your old tire width and the new one, divide that by 2 and that will be how much closer your tire will be to your belt. It's usually not as big a difference as you think.
