Most of us have noticed, if not suffered directly, the reduced availability of parts for Dynas. Here’s the latest of my experiences in that department:
Pre-2006 Dynas with mid-controls need oval inspection covers with a shifter hole. What are our options? Stock unit is plain-jane chromed steel. The unit from Harley’s Aluminator Collection (60656-94A) is an expensive option at $70, and their finned unit (60627-01) only comes in wrinkle-black. Not much else is out there.
So the dealer lets me have the black finned one for $20, a considerable discount, which makes me think that this item is now discontinued - dunno for sure, though. Anyway, chemical stripper (I forgot which one) did its job, then I shot some clear onto it. Also, being made of aluminum, it weighs significantly less than the stock piece.
All this may remind the Dyna rider to keep watch for anything that would fit or could be adapted for use.
3 options available at a local dealer for a 10 year old bike really isn't that bad at all. 4 if you count how you customized the 3rd option. Old Honda parts, fugeddaboutit, yer screwed. Your doin' pretty good.
I agee about parts , but look at all the how-to things people have come up with that make a different look on the dynas and you just did a mod to a stock part and made it different Man I love the dyna forum thanks to you guys I've save'd alot on the wife's sb
