Did my 5000 mile service today on my 2008 superglide, and was quite surprised to find my tranny fluid was down about a half quart.I serviced it at 1000 miles with mobil 1 75-90 and checked it at i guess about 2500 miles and the level was fine, the bike has no leaks any where and runs great. The magnetic plug looked clean, and now i am just wondering where the heck about 16 ozs of tranny oil went ? The bike has not used any measurable amount of engine oil, and the primary oil looked great and had the correct amount came out when i drained it. Is it normal to have to add tranny oil between servicing on these tc96 6 speed trannys ?I will certainly start checking my tranny fluid level on a regular basis.

Only two places it can go. The ground, or into the primary which would be highly unlikely unless seriously over filled. Could be on a error in checking the level at some point, like if there wasn't enough originally and you checked it hot at 2500 with expanded fluid or something like that where as a cold check would show low. Did you check the level when you first got it for the correct amount?

I did the 1000 mile servicing and at that time added 32 ozs of mobil 1 75-90 to the tranny after draining out the old fluid. New o-ring seal on the drain plug and torqued to specs. Since the 1000 mile servicing i checked it a few times and it was at the proper level, so i figured the tranny fluid don't need to be checked as often as the engine oil etc as long as no leaks are noticed etc.
I have been an aircraft mechanic for 30+ years, and have owned and maintained my own motorcycles and autos for 30+ years, so i am quite experienced at servicing motors, trannys, engines etc.I just cannot imagine where about 16ozs of the tranny oil went with no leaks, drain plug seal good, and plug torqued etc. I will keep an eye on it. The good news is that this bikes tranny don't have any issues to speak of, no tranny whine in 5th gear, or any other type complaint and the magnetic plug was clean at 1000 miles and was clean at 5000 miles.
