Default stock muffler question

i have stock mufflers on my street bob and i want to make it a bit louder. i once red on here that you can drill out the baffles( which would suit my pocketbook.) i guess i have a couple of questions if someone could answer them , how big of a hole do you drill , do you drill from the front end of the muffler , and how does it sound , thanks for any info !

You drill from the outlet of the exhaust. You can take a flashlight and look in there. It is only about 8-10 inches in there. I drilled my friends out and we used a 5/8 inch drill bit. It definitly changed the tone of his bike.

Was a post a few weeks ago about drilling a 1/2 inch hole in the plug that stops the air.. will make it a little louder.. By "the plug that stops the air" i mean if you take your muffler off and look straight down the hole you will see a plug dead center of it.. Drill the half inch hole in that.. Somone correct me if i am wrong!!

i did my 07 with a 2" holesaw (home depot) from the back. 2" will fit exactly inside the pipe and cut only the weld on the baffle. it wasn't very hard at all. I'd give you mine if you lived around here, i've replaced em with v&h slip ons. I liked the sound pretty well after drilling out the stock baffles. you will lose back pressure thus some low end torque. i wouldn't run em like that forever but it's a good short term way to wake up the neighbors.

good luck

ps

you only have to drill the one end, (the back) and only have to drill an inch or so in. you're gonna have to put a little *** behind it, you can actually do it without taking the mufflers off the bike, just be sure to have someone sit on it to stabalize it. i had to take the back one off and push the baffle thru with a broom handle. I was able to twist the front 1 free with a pair of vicegrips without even taking it off the bike. make sure nothing's behind you when you start the thing up as all that fiberglass wadding is gonna shoot about 30 feet across your yard. (that part was actually kinda cool)

again good luck

Getting a set of Xieds will fix the low end torqure problem and run a cooler engine.
