06 SuperGlide Custom Recall
http://www.motorcyclecruiser.com/new...lls/index.html
as i have an 06, 6-speed, whose primary chain is grinding, (had 2 friends=motorcycle repair guys check it out for an "honest opinion)) and after having contacted Boston Harley, i was told that since my bike was manufactured in the later part of 05, that i wasn't "covered" to have this fixed. i was told i'm looking at about 500.00. i haven't ridden since last nov for fear of making this problem worse, plus at that time i couldn't afford to fix it. i have enuff saved now.
anyone have any ideas/suggestions.
and no, i do not have an extended warranty.
tx for any feed back
First, the recall. It should have nothing to do with the noise you are hearing. The recall deals with the neutral indicator showing the bike is in neutral when it really is not. There have not been a lot of experienced problems with this, but a couple injuries which were bought to the attention of Harley. They announced a recall to stay in the good graces of the Nation Transportation and Safety Board and to try and minimize damages awarded by the Federal court system. My understanding of such issues is that the repair has nothing to do with time periods outlined in a warranty. Harley is required to fix any unrepaired models spelled out in the recall.
Another very common issue with the 06s was issues with a failing inner primary bearing. This issue was not rectified through a recall. It was notable enough that Harley did accept responsibility by creating a letter which was provided to buyers of particular models produced with in certain periods of time. The early 06 Dynas fall under the terms of this letter. Basically the letter advised new owners that Harley would replace the IPB under routine maintenance every 15,000 miles at no cost to the owner. For some reason, several months down the road, Harley published a follow-up letter stating this maintenance was no longer necessary.
I, and many others here, had the issue with the inner primary bearing. Mine sounded like a failing throw-out bearing of a car or truck. My 06 FXDI was out of warranty when this issue presented itself. I obtained copies of both the letters published by Harley. I took a copy of the first letter with me went I went to the dealer to see if they would cover it. I did not take the second letter. My dealer was not aware of the issues with the bearing when I confronted them about it. They said the would look into it and call me back. They did call back and advised me my bike was one of the models affected by the false neutral recall. They also said they would replace the IPB at no cot to me. This may have been because they would already have the primary covers off and their only expense would be the cost of the bearing.
Anyway, here is a copy of the letter. I would present this letter to a different dealer and see what happens. Act as though you are ignorant of the second letter. Fight the recall for the false neutral as they are responsible for making it right. Contact the NTSB if necessary.
Hope this lengthy post helps you a little.
John

the neutral light, for me, thankfully, is not an issue. it's the chain that's grinding that's causing me the concern, hence, i've not ridden. my two tech friends are going to fix it MUCH cheaper, but i figured i'd throw it 'out there' to see if anyone else had this same issue.
again, i appreciate your reply.
i just feel like i've been dicked around SO much by them, that i don't even want to deal with them anymore...
