i had the shortshots and i ride alot 2up and the best thing we did was buy a touring seat..i dont have the shortshot anymore but we road with them for about 2yrs and with the new seat my girlfriend never complained..she did complain about the stock pass seat.. if you plan alot of 2up riding you might concider ditching to stock seat, and that might save you from having to get rid of the shortshots.. i found my seat on ebay and it was almost new and i think i have maybe 150 bucks in it.. just a though...good luck
shorter pipes more vibration.... I changed out my big radius for fatcats and have less vibration.. Read the second paragraph: http://thunderheader.net/tech.php
These things (Dynas) are notorious for that tingly resonance vibration when it isn't set up right.
1)front engine mount allowing the engine to contact the frame
2)improper tune
3)passenger pegs mounted to the swingarm/which is mounted to the transmission/which is mounted to the engine = way too much resonance through the pegs.
4)engine not properly aligned in frame
5)no tach to help identify what RPM range it's happening
I don't think a new seat will change what your wife is feeling.
Did she not notice it at all before the stageI?
She did complain that she thought there was more 'buzz' through the rear seat than on our Sportster before the stage 1, but not enough to really stop her riding.
Just a suggestion, but do you have a friend that rides that you can trust? My suggestion is that YOU ride on the back and have your friend drive so you can know exactly what the vibration problem is. This would help with your analysis of the problem and potential fixes.
That's a great idea. I'll make that happen.
I'm hoping with Daytona next week some of the Dyna group here turn up - may ask for a trip on the back of someone else's bike that's also got Short Shorts on to see what it feels like.

I caved this morning - was reading a bunch of other threads about possibly faulty isolators and engine mounts. I'm dropping the bike off at the Stealer on the way home for them to take a look at those things. I took a look myself a little earlier and sure enough the front isolator does look a little odd compared to other people's pictures.
I understand the bike's going to vibrate/shake more with the short exhausts and I'm fine with that, it's just the back seat high frequency buzz that's the problem. I did notice today, as well, that slowing down to a stop the front of the bike kind of juddered, almost like anti-locks would feel. It went away by pulling the clutch in, but I think that, plus the buzzing = something needs to be looked at.
If you haven't already, run a full tank of gas through it. My fiance complained of the same thing out of the blue one day. I couldn't feel it but she said it was a terrible vibration in her lower back. Ended up getting through the tank and refilled and the knock went away. Maybe you picked up some bad gas?

That's an interesting take on the whole thing as well Thanks for the tip man.
Doesn't hurt to have HD take a look at it under warranty and it's on the way home tonight, so I'll do that, then run the tank out.
My girlfriend complained as soon as I fitted a lowrider seat to my bob..was ok with the thick bolt on passenger seat from Harley for the Bob but looks so fuuuuuugly! So now she's got an air cushion(Airhawk, you guys heard of it?)to rest her cheeks on and totaly isolates the painfull vibes on long trips...think the rear fender mount struts act like a tuning fork and thats why the rider doesnt get the same vibes...
