I put the bike in the shop yesterday and got my stage 1. Now has Vance and Hines Short Shots staggered, screaming eagle air intake, and a SERT.
I love it to bits, but my wife is bitching to high heaven. First ride out today she insisted on going home after just 5 miles saying that she's getting horrible vibration up her butt and spine (there's a backrest on the bike).
I'm not noticing any of this in the front seat, but it is a little buzzier through the foot pegs.
The question then, is this normal. Bear in mind I also have the 1000 mile service done yesterday as well and swapped to synthetic oil. When everything's worn in a bit better, is this going to go away or should I be back at the dealer about now. The thing that's getting me here is that I'm not feeling any of the problems she is, not one.

Oh, and before the wise guys chime in, it's not the normal type of vibration our wives are all so happy we paid extra for.
I would go over your bike and check everything for loose fasteners.
Was the vibration associated with your speed, or with the engine rpm?
Just checked with her - she says as the RPM's increased, so did the buzzing. I know this sounds so lame, but apparently it's really not the normal fun buzz.
My wife had the same complaint when I put shortshots on my Sportster I used to have, the pipes ending right at her feet had allot to do with it. Ita a great upgrade if you don't want her to ride with you anymore

Back on the original question for a minute - this is my first ever full system upgrade. Do exhausts 'break in' for want of a better way of saying it, over time? Would time and miles help?
I just checked the engine mounts and they seem just fine. The 4 bolts holding the exhaust to the frame could be tightened with a simple wrench, so I did that - they certainly weren't ultra tight, but in all it was only perhaps 1/8th of a turn that was possible.
I've read a few threads advising people to stick a sundowner on the bike as well - any thoughts there?
My problem was solved when a cage took me out and totaled the bike. The shortshots looked great and sounded good, but after a while on a long ride the sound would even start to get to me. Since my wife rides with me allot I went with a 2 into 1, the pipe also ends at the rear of the bike so most of the noise is behind you instead of below you like with shortshots.
