Default What did you guys pay for a sissy bar setup?

Hey guys,

I have a '09 Fatbob that I am interested in putting a sissy bar on the back. I talked to the local dealer and they said it would be about $400 with detach kit, bar, pad, and a rear rack that attached to the sb. I am looking to mount a small bag on the back for storage of stuff while riding around town. Is there any aftermarket setups or is the HD stuff pretty much it? Thanks.

Well you can cut that price alot if you buy online.

If you dont need to carry a passenger and a bag you can do like I did and get a seat with a drivers backrest to attach to. Thats not going to be cheaper but at least you get a new seat.

Haulin *** also makes a small backrest that is all one piece. It lloks good and runs 250 I think but wont work with the stock fatbob seat.

Small Bag attached

Bigger

Thanks for starting this thread because I have the same bike and am in the exact same boat. $400.00 seems like too much for a setup that will sit in storage most of the time.

Wow. I just added up detatchable sideplates, sissy bar, pad, rack and detatch mounting hardware and came up with 444.75. You can do it cheaper by scouring HDF classifieds and ebay. Also, it can be done cheaper if you slot rigid sideplates, making them "removable". Rigid sideplates are cheaper and no mounting kit is needed.

If you do the legwork as far as part numbers, you can then purchase what you need from Zanotti's (online) and save a bunch.

Default Detachable Sissy Bar

I purchased a Harley Davidson detachable sissy bar. for about 320 dollars. I installed it myself.
you have to rewire the back directional on my Dyna, I like the fact you can take it off. My wife will not ride on the bike without it. The chrome is first rate on it. Note: I only buy parts went they are 20 % off at the dealer.

yeah, I paid about $400 for mine. I don't use it unless the wife is riding with me. She is happy so I'm happy. I swore I was never going to put one on, and I did. Does not look that bad either. Besides I can put a Big bag on there for when I go for a long ride.

Are there any directions on how slotting the sideplates is done? I have the rigid plates on my Low but would love the option of removing the back rest when I don't have a passenger.

Here's the link to thread about making rigids removable. I cut the slots on the front holes horizontally, though.
