Default Derby Cover Replacement Question

I am wanting to change my derby cover on my 09 Street Bob, my question is, Do I really need a new gasket when I change it?

The bike is brand new with only 150 miles on it, just doesn't seem like its necessary..

???

The replacement covers require a different gasket.

So I always like to have something on hand, and not need it.... than need it and not have it. If you can guarantee that you won't damage the old gasket/o-ring - whatever-, you have a shot at not needing a new one.

Default Will need different gasket

The non-stock Harley (and others) derby covers require a different gasket. If I remember correctly, the stock derby cover has a groove in it which the large, O-ring type gasket fits into. The non-stock derby covers require a large, rount, flat gasket that cannot be mistaken for an O-ring (derby cover has no groove).

Like others have said, you will need the disk style gasket. Only 150 miles, eh??? Why not wait until the 1k service. You will have the derby cover off anyway at that point to change the primary fluid. You can clock 850 miles in no time, and it will give you time to really decide which one you want.

Unless you're replacing it with another newer stock derby, like the Night train cover I put on mine, I didn't need a new gasket.

My dealer said they are replacing the o ring gasket with the frisbee gasket anyways. He doesn't even cary the o ring gasket anymore.

I'm going to say no you don't depending on what derby cover you get. I replaced mine with a wrinkle black Harley cover and I reused the same gasket. No leaks.
